Since the 1970s, academic outreach programs have expanded and the number of non-resident students at Meredith College has increased. The existing student center no longer met these new demands. PBC+L updated the facility by freeing space within the existing building for student activities and consolidating office space within a new addition. To use this space more efficiently, we reconfigured and expanded the student lounge, group study rooms, snack bar, student offices, supply store, and mail center.

The new primary entry links the addition to the existing building with a double height volume which contains a ceremonial stair and bridge. Siting the addition on the south side of the existing building not only opened up views within the building, but provided a new public face for campus visitors.
